Topping D90SE DAC test

17/11/2021

The birth of the Topping D90SE can be considered a semi-constrained solution due to the burnout of the AKM factory and thus the lack of chips. But, knowing the business policies of Chinese manufacturers (see, for example, Xiaomi) for their abundant, sometimes embarrassingly wide range of products, they could have released the D90SE even if they just had enough AKM chips. The reason is now secondary, Shenzhen Audio is not sitting on its laurels, launching the MQA and DSD / DXD capable DAC version with the Saber 9038Pro chip.

Nowadays, it's hard enough to keep up with the plethora of devices released by Shenzhen Audio, with a new product coming out almost every month, which sometimes looks very different from the previous one, sometimes just fine-tuning. The Topping D90SE can be considered a new version due to the replaced internal DAC, which instead of the "usual" AKM chip, got a Saber 9038Pro version, which is currently the peak of the Saber range.

We get a wide range of standard features, which are standard for Topping, with MQA / DSD 512 / PCM 768 kHz decoding, Bluetooth v5.0 capability, and IIS LVDS HDMI - up to DSD 1024 - input in addition to USB.
